Dominic Buchmiller

Hello! I’m Dominic Buchmiller, a special education attorney based in New York City, which means I represent families who disagree with the special education programming that the NYC Department of Education creates for their children.

My path began at DePaul University in Chicago, where I earned a degree in Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse. After graduation, I moved to Denver and worked as a social worker, helping senior citizens experiencing homelessness navigate complex bureaucratic systems to secure the support they were entitled to.

I returned to Chicago to attend the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, and upon graduating, I began practicing matrimonial and family law in both Chicago and NYC. In these roles, I worked closely with clients to protect their rights and those of their children.

In 2022, I shifted my focus to representing families with children who have special needs, particularly in filing claims against the NYC Department of Education for violations of students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). In January 2025, I took the next step in my career by founding my own law firm, continuing my advocacy in special education law.

I am deeply committed to my clients and their cases. It’s a privilege to work with families and get to know their children’s unique stories. Every day, I get to combine my love for writing, reading, and advocacy, which makes this work incredibly fulfilling.
